Fellow Rotarian and WCCC Superintendent, Rick Smith, spoke with us today about updates at the career center.
He started off by explaining how things are going in these unusual times of Covid-19, mentioning how the students are doing well at adhering to the social distancing and mask mandates. He went on to explain the makeup of the student body based on home school districts, highlighting that 17% of their juniors and 16% of seniors come from Lebanon High School (down slightly from last year).
In honor of those graduating seniors in 2020, a large sunflower field was planted in front of the building, since theirs was a unique spring.
The enrollment in their adult education classes is actually up from last spring, hitting only minor speedbumps due to the pandemic, up in both enrollments and courses completed.
As far as “big projects” the Warren County Career Center is going green, looking to reduce costs of power and invest in the future both with solar panels installed on the roof for electricity and a new geothermal system dug in and around the main campus. Rick mentioned the goal of the panels is to be able to sell excess power back to the grid.
Moving on to specific classes and fields, the vet science and aviation programs have now moved back to the main campus.
Their Greentree campus (in Middletown over by Atrium and right off I-75) is expanding. Programs added included surgical tech, a second pre-nursing program, administrative management, and others. Rick also mentioned that the end goal was to expand this building’s capabilities to add a cafeteria and classrooms to reduce student travel between this campus and the main one.
Finally, we were treated to a virtual tour of the new vet sciences building.
